I had an overnight stay at the hotel with my wife. We booked a table at the restaurant for dinner. The staff were both friendly and attentive. The menu had a good choice of food and there was also a daily special one. The service was prompt and the food was delicious. There was a pleasant atmosphere in the restaurant and the Old Brig O’ Doon was illuminated in the darkness, creating an attractive focal point. The cost of our meals and drinks wasn’t at all unreasonable. The following morning we visited the restaurant again to have our breakfast and again we received friendly and attentive service. There is a choice of a self service Continental breakfast or cooked food can be ordered which we did and again the service was prompt and the food was lovely .We would recommend this restaurant to others as a good place to dine, whether or not they are staying in the hotel. Top marks for Tales Restaurant and we hope to return some day.

Have visited the Brig O Doon a number of times over 25 years and never had a bad meal. Visited last year after the RAD group took ownership and had a nice meal, albeit the quality of produce and actual cookery were noticeable lower than the standards the Brig o Doon had maintained under the ownership of Costley. Visited for a birthday meal over the weekend and the food was honestly terrible. Every single dish not as described, the sauces were watery grease and honestly you’d have got a better meal in most other places in Ayrshire including Wetherspoons. The setting is beautiful but the food is miles apart from where it should be at the price. £27 lamb dish with no more than a tablespoon of mashed potatoes, no sauce, no mint sauce, lamb overcooked. Crab tacos using the basic taco shells you get from a supermarket, filled mostly with watery lettuce (no dressing) and a tiny bit of crab. The chicken quesadilla described as being served with sour cream, salsa and avocado. No avocado in sight and salsa straight out a packet (tasted exactly like Old El Paso). Such a shame as this place has been an iconic restaurant in Ayrshire for a long time. Really hoping the Loch Green doesn’t end up being sold to them as it’s still head and shoulders above if you’re looking for a special meal.

Visited on 7th December for birthday meal with wife. Very polite and helpful staff at reception who took us through to Tales. Great views in restaurant overlooking the Brig even at night. Floor team were all very friendly and service was to high standard. Food arrived hot and cooked to perfection. Pricing was very reasonable too. Have no complaints and will re visit when next in area. Thank you :)
